I downloaded and installed the Git Command Line Portable version for Windows and it can use in the same local folder and in the same time with the Desktop version. We can open the Desktop version and run dos git.exe in the same time without any problem.

  1. Unzip Git portable version to somewhere. Eg. C:\util\Git
  2. Manual add Git folder to the Windows %PATH% rundll32 sysdm.cpl,EditEnvironmentVariables Eg. C:\util\Git\cmd
  3. Specific your text editor. Eg. git config --global core.editor '"D:\software\EmEditor\EmEditor.exe"'
  4. Specific credential storage. Eg. git config --global credential.helper manager-core
  5. Check your config at C:\Users\<username>\.gitconfig

Test drive

  1. Go to your local repository…
