Khronos and EMVA Issue Call for Participation for New Camera API Working Group

EMVA Khronos LogosThe Khronos® Group together with the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) announce the formation of a new Khronos Working Group to develop an open, royalty-free API standard for controlling camera system runtimes in embedded, mobile, industrial, XR, automotive, and scientific markets. Over 70 companies participated in a EMVA/Khronos-hosted Exploratory Group during 2021 to develop a Scope of Work document that will guide the direction of the API design. Design work is expected to start in February 2022. Any organization is invited to join Khronos to participate. All Khronos members can immediately join the Camera Working Group.

C++ for OpenCL 2021 Kernel Language Documentation Released for Developer Feedback

OpenCL LogoC++ for OpenCL™ is a community-based, open-source C++ kernel language for OpenCL that combines full OpenCL C with most features of C++17, implemented in Clang and LLVM. Using the new ‘year of release’ versioning scheme, the draft documentation for C++ for OpenCL 2021 language is now released on GitHub for developer review and feedback. C++ for OpenCL 2021 is fully compatible with OpenCL 3.0 as the same features are made optional in both.

New OpenCL Hardware Database Added to

GPUInfo enables the community to build extensive databases of Khronos API driver capabilities by uploading reports from diverse end-user devices and platforms. As a brand new addition, now offers a client application and server-side database for the OpenCL standard for cross-platform, heterogeneous parallel programming.

The public OpenCL database is available at and provides a range of sophisticated reports on device and platform information, including extension and image format support for a given device. The database also enables comparisons between reports to easily check differences between two devices or even check what has changed between driver updates for a certain device.
