It's a defect. It's being worked on. No need for sanctimonious statements. Developers make bad judgements on all sides of software all the time. The important part is whether the defects resulting from those get addressed.

I just want to be able to say "Hey Google, turn on the bathroom lights" and have it work more than 50% of the time. I gave up on any other more advanced functions long ago.

Works 95% of the time here. I use Assistant to control all my lights. Practically don't use wall switches.

Does your battery have an on/off switch? If it was ever "on" when you plugged in the battery you likely caused a spark as the connectors touched. THe sparks are incredibly hot and ruin a tiny spot on the surface of the connector and if this happens a lot the entire connector can become corroded and stop letting electricity flow through. LiverofStyx explained the rest.

You always want the battery switch OFF when you plug it into the bike, and only turned on when the connectors are mated.

When this happened to me I bought a new set of connectors on aliexpress and swapped them out in my battery/bike since they were both fried in my case. It was a giant pain in the butt to open up the battery to do this, but it can be done.

Just a clarification - connector sparking is a design fault. Nothing stops the manufacturer of that power controller from integrating an inrush protection circuit. Of course that's extra components that can be skipped to increase the profit margin or lower the cost.

Rain has nothing to do with it.

Look up interference from rain in mmWave transmission.

Ahh, that. However freedom doesn't even have mmwave (unless I'm mistaken) or 5G.

I don't think they do but those really high speeds are on the mmWave bands. And I'm still not sure we're ever getting that implemented at all as it requires way too many base stations, lots of interference and so on. 😄
