Text#126

Add text to the animation. I understand that this requiers a bit of work (selecting fonts, sizes, rendering fonts into shapes), but I believe that this would be useful.

Also, this tool is simply amazing!

Thanks, @Davi Mello! Text is planned and we’ve already done a decent amount of work to support it, just trying to prioritize among all our other features. Will be good to see the votes it gets here. :)

Rive looks amazing. We would like to use it create motion graphics for online content. If text is implemented, would there be a way to manipulate objects with it? A use case that comes up a lot in our work is to size a rectangle to the width of the text + a few pixels padding. In after effects, we do this by adding an expression, which is essentially a small javascript snippet that can modify the ppropertie of a shape frame by frame. Is there something planned like that in the future?

I believe that this is planned since we already manipulate text in SVG as shapes.

Is there anything that I can do to help you guys? I’m planning to ditch After Effects and anything that I can do to help this amazing platform will be a interesting for me.

@Davi Mello feel free to shoot us a note at [email protected]!

@Nick Verlinden this is something we would support, but it wouldn’t be directly related to the text feature itself. It would be a more generic type of constraint (or new group/container type) that would allow you to set layout options for resizing and alignment.

Hola @Inventarios denzil ¿Puedes explicar como estas añadiendo el texto y, si es posible, adjuntar una captura del error?

@RedQuark You can outline fonts in Figma, sketch, affinity designer / affinity photo, illustrator, or any other vector tool. What we need is functional text that can be localized, read, and written to, not hacked flat vector objects that don’t actually serve any functional purpose

This is a great tool if you want text from Google Fonts.
You can then clip the text in Rive and edit fills and strokes etc.

The idea is to have dynamic text. Not vector representation of text. Dynamic text…that changes it’s value “text” based on certain events/actions. Like a counter changes text every second.

A counter can easily be accommodated with pre-drawn vectors, but the more general case of dynamic text would require a great deal more effort (like integrating font-to-svg into Rive).
