SVG export#200

As far as I know there isn’t a way to export a file as an SVG. I’d really love to export some of my drawings as SVGs so I can use them in other places. RIV files are very hard to use, and they’re hard to show to other people remotely.

Changed the title from "SVG drawing export option" to "SVG export"

This isn’t planned at the moment, but it could be something we explore for our Cloud Renderer if there’s enough interest. #55

This kind of feature is necessary, there needs to be a way to export shapes from Rive. Else it would make more sense to design shapes in other applications and never in Rive, and then only animate in Rive. There are many cases where designers need the actual vector shapes to use in other apps such as with printing promotional materials.

Currently the only other options I know of are SVGator, which doesn’t allow for the import of any animated files (the app forces you to produce all animations from within their app) and Keyshape, which is terrific and allows for the import of both Lottie files and animated SVGs, but only works on Mac.

The ability to export directly from After Effects to Rive, then add interactions within Rive, and finally export to a web and mobile-friendly format would be absolutely huge. This use case alone would make paying full price for Rive completely worthwhile.

I didn’t even think about animated SVG, that would be huge as an export format.

Exporting a static SVG / PNG / JPG could be a useful feature, but I see Rive more as an animation program than a design tool and don’t think it needs to be both. Do one thing and do it really well and so on…

What I do think would be absolutely amazing would be a way to “render” out animated SVGs. As far as I understand it, Rive uses its own file format in order to be able to provide specific animation features that wouldn’t be easily achievable (or performant) with just SVG + CSS, which is fine for complex animations.

But if there was a renderer / runtime that could map that internal Rive format to CSS keyframes as best as possible (with the disclaimer that not all features might be possible), that could be a huge addition for simpler animations like a menu button or some sort of illustration with a bit of motion, for which one might not want to include the entirety of a Rive runtime.

I spent hours designing something still without animation. I thought I could export it to SVG. Hours of work were just gone.

This feature would be awesome, i have to say that .svg which is light weight its a real need now , i see that is months that its being asked and i understand there is a lot to do in terms of development about Rive which is right now still improving and so was in the past but now there is also a new competitor which is Spline and it would be a really sin if Rive which is so capable and funny to lose its lead due to this missing feature . .svg its the only real way to put great and light animation on the site , i know there is lottie but i’m talking about GtMetrix and speed for the first byte , Gif is old , just 256 colours and gigEnormous in terms of weight.So. please Rive’s Team , do the math (.svg ;) ) do the magic.

Me too and i disagree with ones sayin having rive format could render useless to have the svg export , you can call it or upload it , i know wthout ,or at least i suppose , without interactivity Rive has but for embedding Rive i need at least an iframe or a webview in the coding framework i’m using while with svg you just need need to upload it or a server able to serve it such as imagekit.io or sirv.com .So i think .svg would. be a real game changer that will make Rive PURRRFECT !!!
