What does routine maintenance mean? What, aside from one of the more specific items already in the list, is covered by this term? I have removed for now, pending an answer. --HappyDog 14:42, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
- It would be the uncontroversial, generic "housekeeping functions", such as internal project page deletions, talkpages of nonexistent pages, deletions of temporary workspaces with consent of all authors (but not meeting the "author request" guidelines). Kylu 07:14, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
- Talk pages shouldn't be removed just because there is no related article page (discussion about why a page was deleted, or about prior content, may be useful) - only if there is a definite reason to delete it. Also, I am not sure what an 'internal project page' is in terms of this wiki. Temporary workspaces are kind of a valid thing to delete, but in general it's normally better to keep these around - there's no disk-space advantage to deleting them, and it might be useful to see someone's workings. (And, by the way, what are the 'author request guidelines'? I don't see them on Project:Deletion.)
- More generally, new options should only be added to this list if (a) they are common reasons for deletion (in the sense that you commonly find yourself typing the same thing in the reason box) and (b) they are specific enough that no extra information is needed in order for someone to figure out why the page was deleted. In all other situations 'other' should be used and the appropriate detail filled in.
- 'Routine maintenance' fails point (b), and so shouldn't be used. --HappyDog 01:42, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Default deletion reasonEdit
What system message would one edit to change the default deletion reason? It's "Other reason" by default, but I think on most, or at least many, wikis, the most common reason to delete a page would be "Spam", so it would be nice to be able to set that as the default on a wiki. I couldn't find anything applicable here, so maybe the system message I'm looking for doesn't exist? Leucosticte (talk) 13:36, 4 October 2013 (UTC)
